I’m Linda Asher, a qualified groomer with 15 years experience. I have a passion for grooming and here is how I got started…
I have always had multiple dogs and animals in my life, and in 1996 we got our first Bedlington terrier, Phyllis. Until then we has only had smooth coated Jack Russell’s - the Bedlington was our first dog with a coat that got tangled. So off we go to the pet shop, and ask for a suitable brush for my Bedlington puppy please…they sold me their idea of a brush… off I go thinking I’m doing the right by her. Then time for a groomer (I stupidly thought they must all be the same) umm…
Next we get another Bedlington, Molly, from a show breeder who soon made me realise I wasn’t doing something right… and so I took them both to another groomer who was both qualified & experienced. I took a book said I want them to look something like this please, and don’t worry about your time as I will pay anything to get them looking their best… oh dear, while better than the first groomer still not right.
Neither of these groomers offered me any advice, and my dogs must have been knotty because of the incorrect brush I was using. It amazes me now that they where happy to pull dogs about instead of offering to help them.
Joyce, the breeder of Molly, put me in touch with a local lady that shows. So off I go to meet my now very close friend Dorothy Owen (www.bisbee.co.uk). I say hello, introduce myself and Phyllis, expecting to get her groomed….
Oh no she’s only going to show me how to do it myself, I was mortified! She did one side and then I was expected to do the other …oh dear. But totally unexpectedly from that moment I never looked back. I got the correct brushes that actually brushed, and the perfect comb. I kept going for lessons, bought equipment and tools, and that’s where it all started 20 years ago.
We soon ended up with four Bedlington’s, so I practised and learnt on them. Then I ask myself “would I possibly like to do this for a living?”
So I booked into a college in Sheffield and off I went. Passing my exams and gaining in confidence I start grooming all types of dogs for a living. Sadly I soon realised I wasn’t the only person that had been sold completely the wrong brush, and doing it wrong anyway!
Hence I will gladly help you and your furry kid. I will show you how to brush and comb to get the best from your groom. I also sell tools at cost. I am happy to spend time with you, showing and working with you to do the best for your dogs coat and skin.
Please take a look around our website, its shows some of our work as well as having articles on the grooming process that we hope you will find interesting and useful.
Finally I would like to say a huge thank you to Mike at Eastwood House of IT & Crafts (Newthorpe IT) for his help and patience in creating this website, whilst proving not all techies talk a foreign language, and that some can actually speak plain old English!
